Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto has expressed interest in adding more guest fighters to the game, following the successful inclusion of Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui from SNK's Fatal Fury franchise as DLC characters in the Year 2 pass. Street Fighter 6's roster has steadily expanded with a mix of veteran fighters and new characters, reaching a total of 18 characters after the Year 1 Character Pass. The Year 2 pass is shaping up to be highly anticipated, featuring the return of classic characters M. Bison and Elena, alongside the debut of guest characters Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui.



The addition of Terry and Mai to Street Fighter 6 was met with enthusiasm, marking the first time the series has included characters from a third-party franchise. Previously, guest fighters in Street Fighter have typically come from other Capcom properties like Final Fight. With the inclusion of these iconic Fatal Fury characters, the door has been opened for the possibility of more guest fighters in the future, a prospect that Matsumoto is keen to explore.

In an interview with IGN, Matsumoto discussed the potential for additional guest fighters in the game. He expressed hope that the success of the Fatal Fury crossover DLC could lead to more opportunities for other intellectual properties to be featured in Street Fighter 6. Matsumoto acknowledged the challenges involved in incorporating guest characters but emphasized that the positive response to Terry and Mai is the kind of reaction they aim for. "This was quite a big challenge for us to even incorporate these guest characters...but hopefully things move forward in a positive way, and there's more opportunities that open up for us," Matsumoto stated.



Street Fighter 6's director, Takayuki Nakayama, also weighed in on the topic of guest fighters, including the possibility of adding characters from Mortal Kombat. Nakayama noted that while guest fighters can help bring attention to other fighting game franchises, they also pose the risk of overshadowing fan-favorite characters that players might want to see return in Street Fighter 6.
