Fans initially expected Stranger Things Season 5 to air this year, but Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos revealed in a Q2 2024 Earnings Interview that the final season wouldn’t be released until 2025, extending the wait even further. "Looking forward through 2025, you've got new seasons of Wednesday, Stranger Things, and The Night Agent, and we're in production on One Piece, so there's a ton of excitement there just in our series," Sarandos said. The production of the highly anticipated final season only began in January after being delayed by the 2023 Hollywood labor dispute, which included both actors and writers strikes. Last month, Netflix released a behind-the-scenes teaser, announcing that production was already halfway through filming. Schnapp added to the excitement, claiming, "It's just so exciting. I think this is gonna be the best season yet!"
While Stranger Things Season 5 is expected to release in 2025, the wait might not be as long as it seems considering past gaps between seasons. For example, there was a three-year gap between the third and fourth seasons, with Season 3 premiering on July 4, 2019, and Season 4 on May 27, 2022.
