Monday was easily the biggest day in the non-prime time scene for NITRO Television ever. The structure of daytime is really starting to come alive now as more and more viewers are starting to watch programming during the day.
Both ICE and ROD made huge changes to their schedules to adapt to each others hit programs and the moves definitely worked. SBC unfortunately got real lost in the shuffle in this daytime picture.
The morning battle at 8am which feature all new programs and new hosts for these respective talk shows drew a record audience in the 8:00 AM hour of 30 million viewers between the three networks. They also were all even for the most part as neither one of the three programs really broke out away from each other but we did notice that ICE's AM North America revival Sarah & Jesse AM which is different from its competition as it is more of a radio-talk show type show grew at 9am when the competition went to other programming and went up to 11 million viewers. So this is going to be a great battle here but the question is will one of these programs slip way behind and make another change?
From there ROD actually had a very good high-rated morning as their cancellation decisions worked for them although they better keep a close eye on the game show $128,000 which bled out the gate.
Now the next battle started out as a 2-way battle as SBC seems to have chickened out on the noon talk show battle but ROD did not back down and got its highest numbers for The Midday Show to-date thanks to their hosting change of firing Cher Lloyd. Jennifer Nettles brought in her country viewers as she is looking to slowly bring over those viewers for the next 3 days in anticipation for Carrie Underwood's debut on Thursday. The big help was not only the host but ROD being real smart in changing the timeslot for The Midday Show and not going head-to-head with The Noon Show for both half-hour timeslots. Starting a half-hour earlier really helped as this breakdown will show you what happened here.
11:30am - 15.72 million 12:00pm - 10.76 million
The bad news is that the big drop at the half-hour is something that ROD will have to contend with.
RECORD RATINGS
Another huge hosting change gave a huge lift to daytime's most successful series since 2010 in The Noon Show on ICE as Arielle Kebbel's first show succeeding Jacqueline MacInnes Wood grabbed a new daytime record audience of almost 25 million viewers. The curiosity and anticipation of a new host and being taped from Miami was a perfect combo recipe for huge numbers. That record setting performance helped the rest of the ICE lineup achieve over 15 million viewers for every program that aired after The Noon Show as Apartment 1303 got off to a huge promising start as ICE has been looking for a third soap to go with There's Always Tomorrow and Youthful Daydreamers and speaking of Youthful Daydreamers they managed to get over 20 million viewers for its first conclusion Monday episode. ICE's comedy block thanks to the huge lead-ins did really well out of the gate too. All four comedies did well with no weaknesses.
ROD's soap block looked a lot stronger as well and Sunset Beach's 16 million viewers for its premiere is huge for that particular timeslot. Before last season got wiped out ROD was gaining momentum in that slot with Days of Our Lives and obviously having a teen soap like Sunset Beach is perfect for that timeslot.
Tomorrow should be interesting to see how things cool off a bit.
