Joel Osmond, The Joel Osmond Hour Variety Show (SBC Universal)FIRST PLACE FINISHES 2013-14 SEASON1. ICE (5)
2. ROD (1)
3. SBC (0)
4. QBC (0)
5. TSN (0)
What a Tuesday night as premiere week continues and we had some changes here in the competition as SBC and QBC had great nights that were big enough to top ROD. QBC finally got their first division win against ROD edging them by a few hundred-thousand viewers 30.17 to 30.14 thanks to a good start by Master of the Arts.
ICE finally got some competition on Tuesday but they still had a powerful night as New Girls in Town Pageant has had a very good start to its run as the second night of their 2-day premiere only lost 4 million viewers from the night before getting 43 million viewers losing to the Jaws premiere over on SBC. The great thing about these New Girls in Town performances have been the fact that the show has been self-starting and not having help from any lead-ins like The Carpenters Hour or anything and still staying above 40 million viewers. Janit O'Day settled into its regular timeslot that it dominated last season and without TCC's Cynthia in the picture it will dominate the hour again this season as everything was down in the hour against it.
Janit O'Day second spin-off "Pretty Thieves" grew out of Janit by getting almost 60 million viewers for its premiere so the built-in audience from Janit helped. Pretty Thieves premiere would end up being the most watched program of the entire night and it also set a record beating Teen Angels from last week for the most watch new drama pilot in NITRO history so it looks like ICE clearly has another winner here. So far none of the new ICE pilots have bombed this season just yet as they've done a great job giving them all great lead-in support. Janit O'Day has at least two more spin-offs debuting later this season in Fugitive at 17 and Heather which was sold to SBC not sure when SBC is going to start airing Heather just yet. ICE has given notification that one of these spin-offs will be airing on Pink.
SBC was very close to beating ICE for the first time this season thanks to strong performances from all three of their programs and getting their first program over 50 million viewers with Joel Osmond's debut series. Tuesday marks the second time this season that the network came in second place as they achieved that mark back on Sunday thanks to the NFL. On Tuesday, they were in striking distance of defeating ICE as they got off to a strong start thanks to the most anticipated drama of the season Jaws which easily became the network's most watched scripted series this season. Jaws also achieved a huge mark as it is the only scripted series on NITRO outside of ICE to reach 49 million viewers this season so far beating the ROD scripted programs. Jaws was a vehicle to get Mackenzie Rosman's career back on track as SBC has struggled to do that in the 4 seasons she's been with them and they finally found the right series for her. SBC now knows they have a huge hit on their hands with Jaws but the question is how many people will keep coming back every week?
Alexa Chung although it bled a little bit behind Jaws its retention was very good as it still maintained close to 40 million viewers so SBC will be happy about that. Alexa Chung also did a great job of holding up well against Janit O'Day in that 9pm hour. Not too many shows can hold up that well against Janit O'Day.
JOEL OSMOND = RATINGS!Everybody was wondering after Joel Osmond and his agent selected SBC as his choice studio to get drafted by would he be able to succeed right out of the gate with them or be a bust? Well so far Joel Osmond has passed a huge test and made his boss Gavin Nagy who came over from ICE last season to fix the SBC variety programs and make them more successful like ICE although most people give credit to Pat Devine for the success more than Gavin. In Joel's first self-titled variety hour he grew 14 million viewers out of his lead-in and gave SBC their first program over 50 million viewers this season not even ROD has reached 50 million viewers for a single program this year yet. So his variety show is the only show between SBC, QBC, and ROD that reached 50 million viewers during the first 6 days of the season. ICE tends to make getting 50+ million viewers look easier than it really is but that's why Joel Osmond has to be credited. Joel Osmond might really be the big deal here for SBC. We are still waiting on the other top 3 picks Sara Sampaio and Kyla Ray to star in their upcoming variety series to judge their worth. So far the both of them have done well in their series High School Dropouts for Sara and Janit O'Day for Kyla but Kyla is featured more in Kelly's Thugs than Janit so we'll see how Kyla performs on Kelly's Thugs tomorrow night.
QBC got their first third place finish of the season and finally got a division win in the Federal Division against ROD thanks to their new hit reality competitions Master of the Arts and Turn It to 11 which both performed the biggest numbers on the network this season passing up soccer and The Blue Line. The performance was even stronger since both shows went against two reality competition beasts in New Girls in Town Pageant and Super Crews. The two shows together did something most shows can't do and that's beat Super Crews weakening its numbers. Just like New Girls in Town, Master of the Arts focused in on the acting competition and it performed super well for the network. QBC has been growing the past 3 days pretty well getting at least one program over 30 million viewers.
Unfortunately though Wait For It and Party Down didn't register too good slipping in that slot but they did have to go against Janit O'Day. The performances were still decent as its going to take some more time to judge their worth on their schedule but for now no real concerns here except to see how it plays out. There was positive news in the 10pm as they were able to get the premiere of Tomorrow to register 30 million viewers and that rating wasn't too far away from ROD's Pill Popper Jane and held up well against the 110+ million viewers watching Joel Osmond and those attractive thuggish thieves on ICE.
ROD has had a great start to this season but they have a big problem ahead of them and that's the decline of Super Crews which is starting to fail on them a little bit now Super Crews not only got man-handled by the pageant but also Master of the Arts and Turn It to 11 and come in fourth place behind them is not what ROD is using the show for they were using the show to launch series. Luckily for Ashley Greene she made a deal with her blood rivals over at ICE for the rights of The Carpenters Hour Juniors which is taking steam away from Super Crews as it looks to be a blessing and a curse for them.
ROD actually made a last second audible and pulled their new half-hour teen soaps to extend the Crews to hurt the two competitions instead they were the ones who got Tuesday so that nasty tactic blew up in their faces. Pill Popper Jane suffered a little bit because of that move but the show still looks healthy as this point.
Tomorrow is 9-11 in the states but only SBC is celebrating the holiday because the other three networks are focused on the rest of the world. Kelly's Thugs makes its season debut on ICE with Kyla Ray now attached to the cast. QBC is going with a night of new science-fiction programming and ROD is all-premiere with Star Girl and new cop series Dirty Harry and Chicago Narcs.
