Tuesday August 14, 2012 - NITRO Headquarters - Ottawa, OntarioAugust 13th was the last day of the 2011-12 shortened season and this is a critical day of the year since at midnight opens up a whole new calendar year for NITRO and General Managers are restricted from making payout moves until the 14th so the deadline at 8am forces GMs to make all sort of thirsty moves in time for the start of training camp on Friday.
Commissioner Rachael Leigh Cook on Tuesday morning announced a line of blockbuster trades between all eight of the NITRO studios. Superintendent Moynahan was on hand to help address the media as she approved all of the trades at the 8am deadline. Superintendent Moynahan announced that she delayed the start of training camp to Friday for every studio due to the fact that she knew all of the studios would need three days to prepare the move of their actors to each of their respective cities. Commissioner Cook stated that the moves were made to satisfy the actors in NITRO to ensure actors would be able to start the season working and not sitting on the sidelines.
THE LOS ANGELES GAME CHANGERThe biggest movement involved ex-ICE Starlet Ashely Benson signing a new contract with Roderick Sony Alliance and bringing Troian Bellisario over with her. That move was a major shock as nobody expected Troian to move over to ROD with Ashley but she remained loyal to her good friend Ash. Both girls will be returning back home to Southern California with this movie, both admitted that they were both homesick living away from LA the last three years. Another bonus was Keegan Allen from the Pretty Little Liars gang as he will be coming over to join them give the studio more depth on the male acting roster. Ashley Benson was a top 25 actor in NITRO so this move is no doubt about a huge game changer for ROD as this officially makes Ashley Greene a real threat off the bat here in NITRO.
ROD had made a bunch of good moves as Michael Imperioli did a great job of working with Charlie Sheen, Justin Timberlake, the owners, and Ashley Greene on these moves. ROD obtained ICE's GM Donnie Wahlberg to work with his brother Mark Wahlberg as Donnie will be a studio official with ROD. Another major move will impact the NITRO soap industry as longtime ICE soap actor Steve Burton will now be joining Kelly Monaco to help build up their soap division. Joshua Morrow who was wavering on moving to ICE will be staying put in LA. ROD was also able to get Brett Fox who has been seen as a draft bust so far but is hoping to have a major good run in NITRO with ROD.
THE THREE EMMAS GO TO THE BAY AREAROD's rivals from up north at TCC, Inc. had lost Kay Panabaker to the Starlets but what they got in return was big time as they were able to be the lucky winners of the three Emmas. TCC will now have Emma Stone, Roberts, and Watson all on their roster for the start of training camp on Friday. This is huge since Emma Stone looked like she would start the year with that new DV contract on their roster in New York but she ended up betraying them and leaving for TCC. Roberts who had been working with ICE since 2009 finally got fed up with the bullshit especially with the cancellation of Seattle Mysteries and finally decided to take her talents to the Bay Area. Watson who had been in TCC's sights for a while now finally made the move. Both Roberts and Watson were apart of the original ICE roster back in 2009 so these are huge legacy moves here.
Jennifer Love Hewitt just like Ashely Greene has made a huge impact being the new boss of the studio. Jennifer was also able to bring in James Franco who was the other huge free agent signing an official contract with TCC. TCC has done a great job reviving the careers of the male actors and James will fit right in and be that missing piece they've needed since losing Channing Tatum to ROD a month ago. The studio was also able to obtain the rights to the services of Melissa Rycroft as she signed her contract with TCC winning a huge bidding war with UNO. Melissa chose TCC since she didn't like how Mila Kunis hasn't been able to be apart of the studio battles and Melissa had a number of things to say against the ICE Starlets and knew going to UNO was not going to be the place for her wild diva attitude. Melissa felt like TCC did a great job with the actors over 30 and didn't want to go to studios where the actors were all too young. TCC also got back Elisha Cuthbert to their studio. Lolo Jones made the Carly Foulkes move while Juno Temple surprisingly was fired by ICE on Saturday quietly.
IT'S FELICITY'S STUDIO NOW BUT KEY ACTORS ARE LEAVINGDV comes into the new season not happy campers they have lost key people left and right due to a power struggle at the top between Co-Owner Jaclyn Smith and Leighton Meester. Leighton during her time there at DV hired some very loyal actors and now those loyal actors are leaving but some of the key ones like Blake Lively, Jennifer Lawrence, Harriet Stafford, and Shay Mitchell are staying put.
A lot of people say that 2 Faced may have ruined the culture of the studio. In an interview Ariana Grande who was traded to ICE revealed that DV had changed this year a couple of months after the work stoppage had ended from a studio that was like a sisterhood to a studio that was all about self-importance. 2 Faced is blamed for changing the sorority style that the studio had into a money-making greedy business which is exactly what Jaclyn wants is to make money all day everyday. For the actors who were with the studio back in their LA days they felt the culture changing once they moved to New York and a real phoniness from the actors in the studio. Many actors had voiced an opinion on how actors in the studio were phony when taking visits there for contract discussions. Many people put the blame on Leighton for that change in attitude but its now revealed that Leighton wasn't really a puppet master behind the scenes and that it was Jaclyn Smith running the show from day one since they moved to New York. Ashley Benson also revealed that she wanted out way back in May for that same reason that she didn't like the direction that the studio was going in. She felt like old people didn't like young people like Leighton handling a whole studio by herself. Emma Stone left for TCC for these same reasons as she didn't get a good vibe at all in there.
Even though DV had lost a number of key people they gained some very huge returns. DV's major pickup was Britt Robertson and Phoebe Tonkin who can both be the new young faces of the new direction of the studio. Also the Kardashians have rejoined NITRO to rival their younger sisters who had abandoned the family since joining ICE and they have brought Kanye West with them. This move was said to had been made by Co-Owner Beyonce who wanted more royalty in the studio now that she felt like most of the trash is now gone. Also joining up was veteran actress Rose McGowan along with Anna Kendrick, Liz Gillies, and Zooey Deschanel. On the male end Tyler Blackburn would hopefully be the replacement for Zac Efron.
PARIS BRINGS IN MINI-FRIENDS REUNION & BRING IN TROUBLED DIVA CHER LLOYDAnother pair of surprising moves with one of them being reported earlier has CEO Simon Cowell, President Courteney Cox, and GM Pat Riley bringing in Toronto's Friends producers David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry who recently just joined Jennifer Aniston and TCC to betray them. David and Matthew will now be joining Courteney and Matt LeBlanc. David said that he wanted Matthew to rejoin him so that they can supervise his comedies Monica and Joey and hopefully a new third comedy for the fall. This is a huge game changing move as this move along with the Gavin Nagy move as the new Variety Coordinator should put a small hurtin' on ICE in that area. All SBC is missing is Jennifer Aniston who has remained loyal to TCC and Lisa Kudrow will be working back in NITRO overseas at TWO for the first time since 2010 before the work stoppage.
SBC has been known for bringing in former ICE Starlets who leave on bad terms from them and their latest asset to that bunch is Cher Lloyd singing a new contract with them. Cher Lloyd who was running a dog-killing and drug ring at ICE the last couple of years since joining ICE had barely been working with the studio so they now bring in trouble as Cher is still in the dog-killing business but Simon feels that Cher has never been happy being an ICE Starlet and would like the mentor her so she get back her focus. She has been showing a bunch of anger and hatred towards that studio like Jordan Pruitt so they feel if she can join girls who relate to her on that level things will be better if not this could be ugly for SBC.
After a bunch of turmoil George Lopez will walk back into the studio that he once betrayed in the Jay-Z and Nicole Gale Anderson scheme but all is forgiven now as he will try to revive his career. Over at ROD, George produced a couple of hits for them in Men Having Fun and Hot Girls so he can help David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry build back up that comedy division. Helping them will be Chelsea Kane who comes from ICE and just like Cher never really felt comfortable there. G. Hannelius finally officially has a home. Former MRA homegrown actors Greg Hughes and Liliane Hong will now call SBC home.
SWEET HOME CHICAGONBA Player Derrick Rose who works most of the year for the Chicago Bulls will try to spend sometime as an actor headlining their moves. UNO usually stays quiet away from the press but these moves were smart as they bring in a bunch of veterans including Cheryl Cole who can easily be inserted to one of their talent competitions. Another huge pickup was Amber Heard who is looking for a permanent place to call home. UNO gets deep at the comedy position as they bring in Jim Parsons, Beth Behrs, and Kaley Cuoco. One of UNO's bigger and more surprising pickups was Jesse Metcalfe who left the limelight of LA to join up with UNO. Jesse can definitely fill any drama roles on the roster.
In Portland, QBC was able to able obtain Paul Rudd who was in a real bidding war for his services, his agent actually thought he should've marketed himself in free agency to pickup a contract but Rudd didn't want to wait for a long time and wanted to start work on Friday since he had never worked in NITRO before. Joining him will be Isla Fisher and Amanda Peet who were heavily sought after by other studios. QBC will have a hard time keeping Amanda Peet if they don't make her happy instantly.
In England, TWO's Patrick Dempsey made some under the radar moves but his screamer was Lisa Kudrow joining the studio. TWO now has some star power to build around along with Samantha Barks and Torrey DeVitto.
ARIANA TAKES HER TALENTS NORTH OF THE BORDERThe studio of the stars is always front and center in the headlines and as usual to nobody's surprise they made the most moves. ICE actually made a couple of huge executive moves here as David Schwimmer is out and Kevin James and Kenan Thompson are in to takeover the old Toronto's Friends franchise shows and new ones coming out this fall. Also Rick Gonzalez is stepping in as their new General Manager. It has been said that Donnie Wahlberg hasn't worked any of these recent moves as it was all Rick Gonzalez who was with ICE before the trade to ROD back in May. He had been working secretly with Pat Devine and Jessica Lowndes behind the scenes in July on these moves.
The surprise move of the trade was no doubt Ariana Grande to ICE. Three weeks ago Ariana Grande was embarrassed live on national television by the ICE Starlets to make Stana Katic look bad but little did we all know it was a setup from the get go, Lindsay Roberts and Ariana set the whole thing up and Ariana took a vacation back home in Florida to stay out of the picture. Ariana had always been known as NITRO's nicest and sweetest girl but she made an evil move here joining the evil empire the ICE Starlets. This move has angered NITRO fans everywhere especially loyal DV fans who hate Ariana with a passion now. This move was so huge that Bridgit Mendler stepped in as her replacement on the show with Demi Lovato. Ariana was said to be very loyal to Leighton Meester and was going to go to ICE with her as she didn't like Jaclyn Smith at all. This one hurts DV no doubt about it. Joining Ariana will be Victorious cast actors Leon Thomas III who will join his older brother Kenan Thompson along with Avan Jogia. Rick Gonzalez wanted a more Latin presence in the studio so he also brought in William Levy, Alice Greczyn, Claudia Bassols, and Blair Redford. Starlets Leader Alexandra Chando had a heavy hand in bringing in her Lying Game mates Alice and Blair in.
ICE like they usually do pickup a bunch of people and turn them into big stars and they got a lot of developing pieces here like homegrown talent Erin Sanders and draft bust Alexandria Brower from SBC. One of the bigger trades they made here was picking up Kay Panabaker to join her older sister Danielle, Kay had been tired for the longest of time not getting established in NITRO and now she'll finally be an ICE Starlet and be able to reach her dreams and goals.
Hope Solo will replace Lolo Jones as the roster as one of the athletes and Teri Hatcher, Nadia Bjorlin along with Kelly Thiebaud and Haley Pullos all join Rebecca Herbst to help out her new soap roster.
As usual in trades like this they end up helping the studios more than hurting them even though they lose a lot of assets in the process. Now that the trade has been made its up to the studios to make good use out of all of the actors that they have on their roster as soon as possible, the longer they wait the more they struggling to get anything out of them and they end up leaving them leaving a bad scar on their studio.
