The ICE PhederationThe ICE Phederation hasn't made too much noise lately due to the fact that their concentrated on preparing for the new season and reshaping a good portion of their roster but CEO Pat Devine has announced some new projects that will be ready for both the summer and fall plus the premiere dates for a few of ICE's most high-profile programs.
The first of the announcements comes with the season premiere dates for Janit O'Day and Kelly's Thugs which will both be starting their new seasons a week early in late August the night after the Summer Athletic Games come to a close on Tuesday August 28th. ICE wants to hold the audience they have from the games by keeping them on their network the night after the games finish. Both Janit O'Day and Kelly's Thugs will air back-to-back starting at 9:00pm for a 90 minute showcase. President Keith Smart announced that one of the new comedies which will be revealed later in this press release will lead off the night at 8:00pm.
Keith Smart also announced that Bradleys vs. Van Horns will conclude its 11 episode summer run on Wednesday August 29th with a two-episode event at 9:00pm. Bradleys vs. Van Horns will return later in the year during the Dysfunctional Family Night weekend event during Thanksgiving in late November. Pat Devine is said to be overall impressed by the resurgence and growth of the show in its last few episodes. The ICE Fall Preview Show will premiere the hour before at 8:00pm leading off the night.
The Carpenters Hour will start its season Sunday September 2nd from the Consol Energy Arena in Pittsburgh for the first auditions of the new season. The show's start time is undetermined at this point in time but The Carpenters Hour will likely open up its new airing that Monday and Wednesday.
The premiere event of the fall Kami Ray will start off as a mini-series but the series is still having trouble finding a start date. Head programmer Ken Lee says that he is looking at either two options for the show either it will start in July before the Summer Athletic Games or on September 2nd either before or after The Hour's premiere and air for three straight nights in a row. A lot of it depends on the way the rest of the schedule falls for the month of September as ICE is expected to spread out some of the premiere dates to keep the network fresh going into October but most shows will premiere those first two weeks of the season starting on the 5th.
ICE is still undecided on whether or not the Paramount Pretty comedies will air on Fridays this fall but Ken Lee told Keith Smart earlier this week that the network should open up the 31st of August to start some of the new series that night which will also give ICE an advantage for the big Friday the following week when it counts to have their comedy audience in place to dominate the night for a first place victory but this is still assuming ICE movies their comedies to Fridays as the soaps have done too well there this season.
ICE comedy coordinator Mila Kunis is busy this summer organizing the new brand and line of comedies coming for the summer and fall plus producing a few as well. Mila told Vice President Jennifer Esposito that the network is planning on rebooting the classic 70s sitcom series "One Day at a Time" which was the inspiration for the successful hit "My Two Headstrong Daughters" as One Day at a Time will be both a reboot and an actual spin-off of My Two Headstrong Daughters. Alexis Dzenia's character will expand and move from Detroit to Indianapolis to move into the apartment complex there. The show will feature the character Schneider's son in the lead role raising his three kids. This will actually be one of the few ICE comedies that will actually focus on the male character instead of the female character which is a huge part of ICE's success is focusing their series on their Starlets. One Day at a Time alums Valerie Bertinelli and Mackenzie Phillips will produce and write the series with help from D.L. Hughley who was just picked up by the ICE Phederation. Valerie and Mackenzie are recurring characters on My Two Headstrong Daughters but it is unaware if both actresses will be acting in the show. Both One Day at a Time and My Two Headstrong Daughters are two of the most realest comedies on the NITRO airwaves.
One Day at a Time has been created due to the success of NITRO reboots like Dynasty Returns and Knots Landing and potentially some of the other UNO series plus the thirst for family sitcoms this fall. One Day at a Time could start as early as August 28th in front of Janit O'Day and Kelly's Thugs.
NITRO announced more roster pickups as they have requested trades to NITRO Officials which haven't been announced yet to grab both Kevin James and Claudia Bassols. Claudia Bassols wanted to move to ICE to become a director and producer but Claudia will most definitely be acting in both a comedy and drama this fall. More than likely Claudia will be in a soap for the drama and an experienced veteran character in a sitcom. Kevin James is currently working on a comedy project that he will both produce and star in. Kevin is in negotiations with David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry of joining one of the new Toronto's Friends franchise spin-offs to act in the series. David wanted Kevin way back in 2009 but another network took his rights that year and ICE couldn't use him in Toronto's Friends so they resorted to Stephen Baldwin to play the evil nosy but lovable landlord character in the series which ended up working out for them.
Toronto's Friends franchise has announced their three new spin-off series as Jacqueline MacInnes Wood will be the lead on DJ Becky, both Lily Collins and Penn Badgley will become landlords in Angry Landlords, and Victoria Justice will move to the Pacific Northwest as she will be an amateur track runner in Seattle living in an apartment with other athletic roommates who are all trying to qualify at the Athletic Games while going through life's struggles. That series will be Rainy Days as the show will be setup a lot like Actors but focuses on athletes living together.
ICE has announced their own summer pickup as they will turn the Friday the 13th horror movie series with Jason Voorhees into a television series as the series will follow and focus mainly on the camp counselors as Jason is on the loose. Unlike in the movie the counselors will be in more of a survival mode as we get a chance to learn more about them before they killed one by one. The series will be called simply Jason and will premiere on Friday July 13th but it will air on a different night. The format is expected to be taped with a 4-camera setup. The original intention was to create the series live.
Speaking of live soaps Y&R star Joshua Morrow will team with Michael Bradeson to create a new live serial that will be a mystery called "Who Wanted Nichole Dead?" and it will be a unique program that puts the viewer in a position where they already know who the killer is but they have to figure out why she did it like what was her motive for killing Nichole. The character also kidnaps the deceased victim's sister and holds her captive while she takes over her identity while she's in town. The killer is a runaway teen who comes into town as a complete mysterious and troubled stranger. This right now is being proclaimed as possibly ICE's best new soap opera that's coming this year. It is undetermined if the series will have a summer run or start in the fall.
ICE also announced that All My Children will be returning on July 15th after the Soap Awards. All My Children is officially no longer up for sale to the other networks but One Life to Live will likely be sold.
Kya Summers has been cast in the Universal pilot Mean Girls and others to be joining her will be Sasha Pieterse and Lindsay Roberts. Ashley Benson is expected to lead the other Universal pilot Uptown Girlz.
The last bit of news coming from the Phederation is that Mary Elizabeth Winstead will lead the new pilot Sam's Sisters which is a new crime drama about three sisters in Seattle who solve the unsolved mysteries in the area. Sam is an official police detective but her two younger sisters latch onto her and illegally works the cases. The family of sisters come from an abusive home and they chase down their demons from their father who beat on them for years. It has not been noted when the series will start airing but its only going to air in the fall and not the summer.
The other pilots that were awarded to ICE will find time on the summer schedule such as TCC's Dance King and game show Twister. Game show executive Charles Neely will get Battle of the Sexes up and running to run on ICE's syndication network MBC but the show will get some play in prime time on ICE.
ICE has put themselves in such a good position to dominate this coming season as this should be a year of possibly getting back-to-back most watched titles.
