Cynthia was TCC's top scripted program in its freshman season and the series got an early jump on the official start of the new season on Wednesday. Cynthia improved to 43 million viewers over the 34 million that watched its final episode last season that's an extra 9 million viewers who watched Cynthia. It's safe to say that Cynthia is off to a great start this season as the rest of the network has struggled with the experiment of starting some of its series a few weeks earlier than the rest of the networks but this experiment was worthwhile for TCC.
Cynthia also beat Janit O'Day's highest all-time rating of 41.96 million viewers which was captured the same night back on June 26th as Cynthia's season finale. Now this actually might be good news for Janit O'Day's season premiere that the premiere can beat last year's finale but we still don't know exactly when ICE is going to premiere Janit or what night it will air on as they have yet to present their Upfronts.
Cynthia no doubt about it has had great word of mouth from its initial season and it led to a lot of sampling it last night. The hope for TCC is that they can keep a good amount of these new viewers over the last couple of weeks of the summer as the season will bring immense competition overshadowing Cynthia in whatever timeslot it is in. We know for sure that TCC's Head Programmer Ken Sanford has hinted that Jennifer Love Hewitt wants Cynthia to go against their rival Janit O'Day wherever it airs this fall. It is still not known where exactly Janit O'Day is going to air but TCC is willing to move it. A move really won't hurt the drama b/c the climate of the fall competition will change especially on Wednesdays which is expected to be the second toughest night of the week behind Fridays during the start of the new season based on advertising projectories for the new season. TCC was smart in getting Cynthia sampled these last few weeks of the summer on a non-competitive night, so far we've already seen that Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays have been the toughest nights of the week this week to program here in August as the networks are much more aggressive in their programming on those nights.
